Green Tea Extract and Weight Loss
Green tea has always been known to have several health benefits, but who knew that it could contribute to weight loss as well?
A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that green tea extract can increase metabolism and oxidation of body fat. In theory, scientists believe that the weight loss benefits of green tea extracts are due to their caffeine content, but the results of the study show otherwise as they discovered that green tea extracts have benefits beyond of weight loss than caffeine.
In their study, the researchers administered alone the same amount of caffeine in tea extracts, but found no substantial changes in energy expenditure of the body in general. This led to conclude that tea extracts use ingredients that actively interact with each other, promoting increased metabolism and fat oxidation that lead to weight loss.
More results indicate that a certain compound present in tea extracts might be full ingredient causing weight loss. These compounds called flavonoids extract may change the way the body uses norepinephrine, a hormone that monitors the way which calories are burned. When flavonoids interact with other extract ingredients, more calories are burned thus contributing loss of weight.
Another ingredient that actively contributes to the weight loss benefits of green tea is the compound catechin polyphenols. These compounds also interact with the extract and other ingredients to promote weight Lossing fat burning and thermogenesis (a process energy loss by heat during the day).
The great thing about the loss of the weight advantage of extracts is it has no negative side effects. Unlike other herbal products like ephedra and drugs of obesity, the extract does not increase the green speed heart rate or blood pressure. In this regard, the tea is a way effective and safe alternative to other weight loss products that can cause damage to the user.
The study by University of Geneva on the weight loss benefit extract implicated that green tea can also help thyroid patients. By dietitian Lynn Moss, MS, RD, tea extracts are a healthier choice for people with thyroid who may be too sensitive to stimulants. Tea can help weight loss by increasing metabolism without over stimulating the adrenal glands.
